José Martínez Suárez is the director of Argentina’s Mar Del Plata International Film Festival – Latin America’s finest gathering of global movie talent. Suárez has a long and glorious history as a film-maker himself, working as a writer and director on more than 20 movies since the 1950s. Possibly his greatest contribution, however, is as a teacher – most of the current new wave of Argentinian award-winning talent, such as Lucrecia Martel and Juan José Campanella, started out as his students. Mar Del Plata began back in 1954, and has been a magnet for film buffs ever since.
